2016 Fine Art Award Winner for Music: Steve Betz and Beth Nuss

The recipients who earned the Fine Art recognition awards -- the Distinguished Service Award winners -- are teacher-directors who have set the bar high.

This is the seventh year for the presentation of the Distinguished Service Award. The recipients must be actively involved in IESA Music and demonstrate the ability to develop and promote standards of good performance practices, integrity and life skills within their students. The contributions of the award winner must have positively impacted students and the school community.

The individuals are nominated by their school peers, and the winners are voted upon by the IESA's Music Advisory Committee. For the Distinguished Service Award winner, the contributions must be significant and/or long term for someone involved with Music for over eight years of teaching and directing.

Steve Betz a 32 year music educator for Bradley Central Middle School and Beth Nuss a 34 year music educator from Paxton Buckley Loda Junior High School, were selected as the 2016 Distinguished Service Award winners. Both of these award winners have been long standing hosts of IESA music activities. According to Mark Kohl, principal at Bradley Central Middle School, “ Mr. Betz gives students a passion for music that transfers into their academic careers.” Mr. Kohl goes on to say that several of Steve’s students have continued his passion for music education and become music teachers themselves.

Josh Didier, Principal at Paxton Buckley Loda Junior High School expressed that “Mrs. Nuss has lived her entire life promoting the educational value of Music.” Mr. Didier expounded on Beth’s “ability to create meaningful, genuine and authentic relationships with her students and junior high school families.” Both of these directors create a level of excitement surrounding music education for middle school students and enrich the lives of their students and their communities.

Congratulations to Steve Betz and Beth Nuss, the 2016 Distinguished Service Award Winners.
